I’ve had these projects sitting in my files since I returned from Europe last November, wondering how I was going to achieve the effect I wanted. That’s when I did my research like a good doobie, and the result has brought me joy in a way I cannot express. The artistic pursuits of my regular day have just broadened by miles. Here are the first few attempts at capturing a place, when one photograph just won’t cut it.

This was created by stitching 29 photographs together. I took them, without a tripod, while sitting on Pont Neuf under a tree. The image needs to be opened to experience fully, but the joy it brings me is unspeakable. The little outjutting of sidewalk on which I sat had quite a view, no?

The second one I did was in the courtyard of the Louvre. I knew I wouldn’t have the time to actually venture inside the museum as I only had four hours in the city, but the visit to the grounds was worth the walk, by itself.

A truly beautiful building. The Louvre is a palace the likes of which I have never otherwise seen. Sure there’s Hampton Court and Versailles, oh, and then there’s the Hague in St. Petersburg. Ok, maybe I have seen the likes of it elsewhere, but whatever. None of the other locations had the Mona Lisa, alright. SO there.

Then, the final piece was the one I was most excited to see come out as well as it did. This is Maastricht, the Netherlands and was, by far, my favorite stop on the trip. I would plan a trip back to the Low Countries just to visit this city again and partake in their food, the side streets, their festivals, their coffee shops, their patisseries, their Architecture, their Cathedrals which hide in the pedestrians walkways in courtyards lined with cafes where the patrons turn their chairs outward to people watch with abandon. I loved this place like no other.

Click on any of the images to see them at full resolution. I feel it is worth it to see the whole show.

More of Europe to come…when I can finagle the motivation to look through the shots.
